SAS Statistical Software - Learning Tools

Online Documentation

Documentation for Version 8 of SAS is available in HTML format to users accessing the links below from Duke network locations. This documentation is quite useful for checking on concepts or the syntax of particular commands. The documentation is available in two formats - a searchable version for Java-enabled browsers and a plain HTML format for nonJava-enabled browsers.

Books and Manuals

SAS has evolved into a complex software product. It is difficult to learn SAS from the manuals, which function more as references for the initiated. The manuals are also quite expensive. To search and order other print documentation see the SAS Publications link. On campus the Gothic Book Shop stocks a selection of basic SAS books and manuals.

Courses

For those with deep pockets, the SAS Institute offers an extensive array of short courses, many of which are conveniently taught at the Cary corporate headquarters.

Tutorials

SAS tutorials of varying quality are widely available. SAS has a glitzy, but informative tour that illustrates the interactive SAS work environment and some management, reporting and analysis functions:

There are two quite useful tutorials from UCLA and UNC-CH:

FAQs, Technical Tips and Other Resources

The most complete and well-organized FAQs are maintained by SAS:

Again UCLA and UNC-CH are good sources of information:
